NFL insider just dropped the Gervon Dexter news Bears fans were not expecting

The Chicago Bears have had many players' names on the roster be named as potential trade bait, but a new name has come up that could actually happen that was from out of nowhere.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that teams are inquiring about Bears defensive tackle Gervon Dexter to acquire him in a trade. While there is no word on what Chicago would look for in trade compensation or if they are even interested in trading him, this is a new name that has not brought up yet this offseason.

Dexter is coming off a great season for the Bears as he was second on the team in sacks with a career-high six. He added 44 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries in 17 starts with the Bears.

Gervon Dexter might be a trade candidate for the Bears

It's surprising to see that Dexter's name is now in the mix for a trade from the Bears, as other teams are checking whether he is available. His contract situation is really solid as he has only one year on the deal and a cap hit of just $2.1 million.

Trading Dexter away would be quite a surprise for the Bears, especially since he is one of their top players on the defensive line and arguably the best defensive tackle on the team. Grady Jarrett was a disappointment after signing with the Bears last offseason, but the team would start to get thin at tackle if Dexter was moved off the team.

Also, Dexter is just 24, and the Bears would probably prefer to keep him on the roster to develop him rather than let him go. The trade compensation would be interesting, as it would be assumed that a Day 2 or fourth-round pick would have to be a part of it for a trade to be done.

For the second straight day, the Bears are attached to trade rumors, with linebacker Tremaine Edmunds been given permission to seek a trade. Whether the Bears get a trade done with Dexter now becomes the fascinating part of this whole situation.
